Indeed.com recruited by Japan

Recruit Company, a Japan-based provider of human resources, has acquired Indeed.com, a US-based online jobs website backed by news provider New York Times’s (NYT) corporate venturing group, for an undisclosed amount.

News provider TechCrunch estimated the sale price “may well have been close to $1bn”.

NYT said it expected to book a $100m profit in the fourth quarter from the sale of its minority equity interest. NYT and venture capital firm Union Square Ventures invested $5m in Indeed in 2005.

Indeed launched in 2004 as a search engine for jobs and is now available in 50+ countries, 26 languages and claims to have 80 million unique visitors per month, 25,000 employer clients and to be the top external source of hires in the US.
