Intel Capital, the corporate venturing division of semiconductor company Intel, has hired Christine Herron (pictured, courtesy of CrunchBase) as a director in its consumer internet team and struck three deals in the Middle East.
Herron previously worked as a principal at First Round Capital, which makes seed and early-stage investments, and between 2005 and 2007, was at Omidyar Network, the investment operation of angel investor Pierre Omidyar, the founder and chairman of online auction comapny eBay.
Intel Capital has been investing more in earlier-stage companies and leading or taking the whole round in companies.
Separately, Intel Capital has reinvested in Jordan-based Jeeran, an online social networking company, and ShooFeeTV, an internet-based entertainment guide. Intel first invested in the two companies in May last year.
The firm has eight portfolio companies in the Middle East, after agreeing to invest in UK and Lebanon-based Nymgo, a voice-over-the-internet telephone operator.
Last month, Intel made an investment in and a strategic cooperation with NetPosa, a digital surveillance system provider in China.
