Menē, a France-based gold and platinum jewellery brand backed by metals trading platform Goldmoney, has raised $21m in funding from undisclosed investors.
Menē designs, manufactures and sells 24 karat gold and platinum jewellery through its online platform to consumers in 90 countries.
The platform launched in beta in November 2017 and allows users to buy, sell and exchange Menē jewellery by gram weight at market prices.
The capital will be invested in growing Menē’s manufacturing and distribution infrastructure and customer acquisition. It plans to also launch an offline retail business in 2018.
Menē had raised an undisclosed amount of seed capital in June this year from its co-founders Roy Sebag and Diana Picasso as well as Goldmoney, which took a 32% ownership stake through its investment.
Sebag, Menē’s CEO, said: “I am looking forward to the great sociocultural experiment that is about to unfold, as we will hopefully prove that 24 karat jewellery can be an investment asset while simultaneously exemplifying the emotional and atemporal intangibility universally found in the exceptional craftsmanship and beauty of luxury jewellery.”
