Nokia meets EventBoard for $13.5m series B

Nokia Growth Partners (NGP), the corporate venturing arm of communication technology provider Nokia, led a $13.5m series B round for cloud-based meeting technology developer EventBoard yesterday.

GE Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of industrial product and appliance manufacturer General Electric, also took part in the round, as did venture capital firms Greycroft Partners, Origin Ventures and Zetta Venture Partners.

EventBoard has built a cloud analytics platform that helps businesses plan and execute meetings more efficiently by displaying which employees are going to meetings, for how long, and how much space and technology will be needed.

The round was announced at the same time as a feature called Desk Booking, through which businesses can arrange temporary workspaces and make sure desks are filled. EventBoard will put the capital towards strengthening its sales and marketing.

Anupam Rastogi, the NGP principal who leads the unit’s Connected Enterprise investment practice, has joined EventBoard’s board. He said: “Eventboard’s industry leading workplace productivity solutions align well with NGP’s Connected Enterprise vision.

“With intelligent controllers, smart software and advanced analytics, enterprises have significant opportunity to increase workplace productivity and build new revenue streams. EventBoard has the right executive team, customer base, business model and technology to lead the category and drive it forward.”

EventBoard said it has now raised $20.5m since it was founded, having secured $6.5m from Greycroft, Origin and Zetta in November 2015.

The startup raised a reported $1.5m in an October 2014 seed round that included Zetta and Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit that now operates as a subsidiary of internet and technology holding company Alphabet.
