Possible buyers emerge for Intel Capital’s $1bn asset sale

Private equity firms Coller Capital, HarbourVest Partners and Lexington Partners are among the prospective bidders for a venture capital portfolio set to be sold by semiconductor maker Intel for about $1bn, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

News that Intel was working with UBS on a sale of part of its VC portfolio, held by its Intel Capital unit, was originally reported by Bloomberg in March this year.

Private equity firms Coller Capital, HarbourVest and Lexington are among those which have requested information regarding the assets, according to people familiar with the matter.

Intel Capital expects first-round bids for the assets next month and intends to sell them as a bundle without splitting them across geographical or thematic lines, they added.

The deal will likely involve some members of the Intel Capital team moving across to oversee the investments, the sources said. Intel revealed last month it plans to cut 12,000 jobs, around 11% of its overall workforce.
