US industrial conglomerate 3M’s corporate venturing unit has taken an undisclosed size stake in Printechnologics, a Germany-based printed electronics specialist formerly known as Menippos.
3M’s New Ventures business invested an undisclosed amount in Printechnologics as both companies develop electronic circuitry on paper or foil (see picture of Printechnologics’ paper battery).
Stefan Gabriel, president of 3M New Ventures, who joined two years ago from car maker BMW, said: "Printechnologics has developed game-changing technology enabling printed circuit structures on paper. We see various innovative application areas that provide significant growth opportunities and access to new markets for 3M."
Voyl Divljakovic, vice president and general manager at 3M Electronic Solutions Division, added: "Among others, we explore anti-fraud solutions that could save billions of dollars for our customers. Possible applications are smart packaging to prevent counterfeiting or anti-fraud solutions in the gaming market in connection with our multi-touch displays."
