The corporate venturing unit of industrial and office supplies conglomerate 3M has backed Zephyr Technology, a maker of physiological monitoring systems.
3M New Ventures was joined yesterday in the series C round by Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, the corporate venturing unit of the eponymous communications company, and venture firm Alsop Louie Partners. Terms were undisclosed in Zephyr’s press release, but a filing earlier this month with US regulator Securities and Exchange Commission showed the company had raised $8.9m of a planned $11.9m round.
Zephyr’s series B previously raised $2m in 2009, according to news provider OnBioVC.
Stefan Gabriel, president of 3M New Ventures said: "Measuring the performance and condition of people, workers, and patients is becoming increasingly important from a safety and performance standpoint."
Bob Anderson, vice president and general manager, 3M Security Systems Division, said: "We look forward to collaborating with Zephyr Technology to bring unique applications of physiological and biomechanical sensing and monitoring to our products that further enhance the safety and well-being of our customers across the markets we serve."
Zephyr was founded in 2003, and its technology allows the monitoring of physiological statuses in training and high stress operational environments.
