Germany-based mobile application (app) developer 6Wunderkinder secured $4.2m in funding on Wednesday last week from Atomico, the venture capital firm set up by Kazaa and Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrӧm.
6Wunderkinder secured €500,000 ($665,000) of seed funding in December last year from corporate-backed venture capital firm High Tech Gründerfonds. This was followed by a further, undisclosed investment from telecommunications corporation Deutsche Telekom’s corporate venturing unit, T-Venture, in June of this year.
6Wunderkinder is perhaps best known for its task management app, Wunderlist, which has totted up 1.4 million users, but will be diverting the brunt of Atomico’s financing towards its new application, Wunderkit, which is intended to build on Wunderlist by expanding the social element with the emphasis on mass collaboration between workspaces.
Zennstrӧm said: "We are delighted to make this investment. The company has brilliant management, has already got great traction in the market, and has a huge opportunity in front of it. We were particularly impressed by the international outlook of the team, and the potential for growth in markets across the world. This is precisely the kind of investment that we love to make at Atomico."
