China-based cryptocurrency industry media portal 8BTC News has attracted RMB100m ($15.8m) in a series A round featuring bitcoin hardware manufacturer Bitmain.
The round included electronic trading firm QF Capital, investment firm Puhua Capital and venture capital firm Funcity Capital. 8BTC had not previously disclosed any equity funding.
8BTC News operates what it markets as an established, unbiased cryptocurrency news portal that gives its China-based users details of international developments in currencies such as Bitcoin while also reporting on the domestic cryptocurrency space.
In addition to its news coverage, the company employs a product development team which is currently working on an open blockchain protocol called Bytom.
Chang Jia, founder and CEO of 8BTC, said: “While engaged in preaching of blockchain technology and spreading information, we keep moving. And now blockchain applications are being substantially realised in the economy, it is great timing for our Bytom program.”
