US-based software architecture technology developer Lightbend completed a $25m financing round on Monday led by Dell Technologies Capital, the corporate venture capital arm of computing technology provider Dell.
Networking technology producer Juniper Networks, semiconductor and data technology provider Intel, computing equipment maker IBM, Bain Capital Ventures, Blue Cloud Ventures, Greylock Partners and Shasta Ventures also took part in the round.
Lightbend has created an application development software platform that helps enterprises run cloud-native applications in real time, offering tools such as data streaming engines and reactive microservices.
Tyler Jewell, managing director at Dell Technologies Capital, took a board seat at Lightbend in connection with the round. He said: “Their industry vision aligns with Dell Technologies Capital’s view of the future.
“Lightbend is well positioned to take advantage of two key trends that will dramatically change the enterprise computing landscape – they are the leader in reactive architecture and enable serverless computing in a way unmatched by other vendors.”
The round boosted Lightbend’s overall funding to $77m. IBM and corporate venturing units Intel Capital and Juniper Ventures all took part in its last round in 2017, when it raised $15m, together with Bain Capital Ventures, Blue Cloud Ventures and Shasta Ventures.
The company secured $20m in a 2016 series C round led by Intel Capital and backed by Bain Capital Ventures, Blue Cloud Ventures, Shasta Ventures and Polytech Ecosystem Ventures.
Shasta Ventures led Lightbend’s $14m series B round in 2012, participating alongside Juniper’s Junos Innovation fund, existing backer Greylock and angel investor François Stieger.
