David Liu has been appointed principal at US-based telecommunications group Verizon’s corporate venturing arm, Verizon Ventures, the unit announced on Wednesday.
Liu joined Verizon in April 2018 as a corporate development and mergers and acquisitions manager, after spending nearly two years conducting investment banking in the media and telecommunications sectors at financial services group Citi.
His two-year stint at Verizon’s M&A group involved Liu carrying out acquisition, divestiture and joint venture transactions. He facilitated the purchase of network infrastructure technologies such as cybersecurity software provider Vidder’s PrecisionAccess tool, which ensures only trusted devices can access internal networks.
Liu has relocated from New York to Silicon Valley as part of his new position and said in a blog post: “As a principal focused on the Verizon network, my role allows me to work with some of the top network engineers and technologists in the world to identify technologies that will drive the growth of the 5G ecosystem.
“I look forward to working with entrepreneurs while leveraging Verizon’s [small and medium-sized enterprise] expertise, as well as my own experiences, to accelerate the deployment of tomorrow’s technologies.”
