Sima.ai realises $30m series A

US-based machine learning technology developer Sima.ai collected $30m in a series A round yesterday led by Dell Technologies Capital, the corporate venturing arm of computer equipment producer Dell.

Amplify Partners, Wing Venture Capital and ND Capital also took part in the round.

Sima.ai is working on machine learning (ML) technology that enables high-performance computing at low power usage. The company is initially focusing on computer vision applications.

The series A funding will allow Sima.ai to accelerate its production, scaling its architecture and toolchain. Daniel Docter, managing director at Dell Technologies Capital, will join the board of directors.

Sima.ai has now raised $40m in financing altogether, it said, though it does not appear to have released details about its earlier funding.

Docter said: “While ML workloads are already proliferating in data centres and ML functionality is being incorporated in edge devices, power constraints are inhibiting adoption in a wide spectrum of embedded system use cases that could benefit from ML.

“Most other ML solutions are not aimed at addressing this market segment. We are excited to work with Sima.ai’s visionary team developing a disruptive and holistic solution to address this opportunity.”
