ByteDance buys Baikemy

Digital media group ByteDance has purchased Baikemy.com, the China-based online medical knowledge platform backed by search engine operator Sogou, for an undisclosed amount, Caijingtuya reported on Tuesday.

Founded in 2010, Baikemy provides an online health and wellness content library with information curated by care professionals, leveraging artificial intelligence-powered technologies such as natural language processing, deep learning and knowledge graphs.

The portal also conducts teleconsultations and offers videos that cover areas including diseases, treatment, rehabilitation and Chinese medicine.

The company raised an eight-figure dollar amount in an October 2019 series B round led by Cenova Ventures and backed by fellow venture capital firm BlueRun Ventures, according to PEdaily.

Sogou had participated in a series A round of similar size the previous year, iCEO has reported. Liuhe Huaneng Investment is also among its previous investors, according to VCbeat.
