Citrix invests in CumuLogic

The fund comes from Citrix Startup Accelerator, the early stage investment unit of Citrix Systems, a US technology company.

CumuLogic, a startup created by former Sun Microsystems employees, aims to develop programming which upgrades virtual servers from providing Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) to Platform as a Service (PaaS).

Traditional IaaS services allocate virtual machines to clients who are then required to upload install and patch an operating system and the relavant programming tools, whereas the newer PaaS model aims to provide an out of the box solution by including the operating system and programming tools from the get go, cutting down on time and complexity for the end user.

According to CumuLogic their software solution enables the popular programming language Java to be used on servers, therefore enabling Java coded applications to be deployed to the end user. In a report in gigaom CumuLogic stated that its software is compatible with most virtual server providers and that it had already signed on cloud service provider Contegix as a client.

In a statement  Martin Duursma chief financial officer of Citrix said: “We are excited to have CumuLogic join the Citrix Startup Accelerator program. Enterprise adoption of cloud infrastructure is moving from simple Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to new classes of applications designed specifically for the cloud. CumuLogic provides enterprises with PaaS-like capabilities by providing a dynamically scalable application framework that integrates with any public or private IaaS cloud to deliver on this new hybrid cloud environment.”
