Klara clasps $15m

Internet technology provider Google’s artificial intelligence fund, Gradient Ventures, co-led a $15m financing round for US-based medical engagement app developer Klara yesterday.

The round was co-led by healthcare-focused venture capital firm Frist Cressey Ventures and also featured FirstMark Capital, Lerer Hippeau, Project A Ventures and Stage 2 Capital.

Klara has built an online platform that enables doctors to communicate with patients more efficiently, organise appointments and streamline their work. The capital will go to recruitment, product development and the improvement of the company’s AI technology.

Gradient Ventures general partner Darian Shirazi is taking a seat on Klara’s board of directors in connection with the round, as is Navid Farzad, partner at Frist Cressey Ventures.

Atlantic Labs, Creathor Venture, Partech, Heilemann Ventures and Stephan Schambach had supplied $2.5m for the company in 2015 before Project A and Lerer Hippeau led a $3m round featuring Groupe Arnault and existing investors including Atlantic Labs the following year.

Klara added $11.5m in an August 2018 series A round led by FirstMark and backed by Lerer Hippeau, Project A, Atlantic Labs and angel investors including Zach Weinberg, Nat Turner, Vivek Garipalli and Clark Valberg, and an undisclosed amount from Stage 2 Capital in March 2019.
