Smart Protection collects series B funds

Smart Protection, a Spain-based provider of anti-content piracy technology, completed a €10m ($11.9m) series B round yesterday backed by Telefónica Tech Ventures, the cybersecurity-focused investment arm of telecommunications firm Telefónica.

The round was co-led by venture capital firms Knight Capital and Swanlaab Venture Factory with participation from financial services firm Bankinter, Spanish national innovation agency CDTI, Nauta Capital, Big Sur Ventures and JME Ventures.

Founded in 2015, Smart Protection has developed software that protects brands and online entertainment producers from piracy. It is authorised by the trusted copyright removal program of search engine Google, enabling it to quickly delist links to pirated material.

The company will use the cash to pursue international growth and said it had now raised approximately $24m to date.

Nauta Capital led a $5.7m series A round for Smart Protection in September 2019 that also featured Telefonica subsidiary Wayra, Bankinter’s Innovation Foundation, JME Ventures and Big Sur Ventures, all of which were described as existing investors.
