Daniel Carter is a senior investment director at Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (SAEV), the corporate venturing unit for Saudi Arabia-based oil and gas supplier Saudi Aramco.
State-owned Saudi Aramco is active throughout Asia, Europe and the Americas, providing petroleum, gas and chemicals, and related services such as supply chain management, financing and political and economic analyses through various subsidiaries.
The company completed the biggest-ever initial public offering in January 2020 when underwriters took up a greenshoe option and increased its size to $29.4bn. The listing has given Saudi Aramco a valuation of $1.87 trillion, making it the world’s most valuable company.
Formed in 2012 with a $500m capital, SAEV has a portfolio of more than 40 companies including thermoplastic composite pipe equipment provider Airborne Oil and Gas, nano-engineered materials manufacturer NanoMech and chemical analysis device producer 908 Devices.
Carter has been investing in early to growth-stage energy companies since the 1990s, many of which have achieved exited through initial public offering and mergers and acquisitions.
At SAEV, Carter conducts growth equity and venture capital investments from identifying investment opportunities, due diligence to returns analysis and business development. He leads global team members and mentors young professionals.
Previously, Carter was a principal at growth capital fund Conduit Ventures and a vice-president at Salomon Smith Barney, now a part of financial services group Citigroup as Citigroup Global Markets.
Carter is on the investor advisory board of US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, a council member of Launch.org, an innovation challenge sponsored by NASA, footwear and apparel firm Nike, US Agency for International Development and the US Department of State.
He is also a board member of London Business School’s Energy Club. He holds a joint MBA from Columbia University’s Business School and London Business School.
