Kevin Stevens has joined Energize Ventures, a Chicago, US-based venture capital firm set up and backed by Invenergy, to lead its growth equity platform.
Previously a partner at venture capital firm Intellis Capital for just more than three years, Stevens’s deals had included Wndyr and Ensemble Energy.
Energize had previously been investing in pre-growth stage technology companies that are “changing the game in energy” and, as well as Invenergy, its limited partners include Schneider Electric, GE, Hannon Armstrong, WEC Energy Group and Caterpillar.
He began his career in business development at NRG, a US-based integrated power company, before moving to then-startup Choose Energy, an online energy marketplace (where he serendipitously met Energize managing partner John Tough).
As one of the earliest employees, he helped guide Choose through several fundraises — totaling $27m — and an eventual exit.
