UK-based strategic investor Imagination Technologies Group has led a undisclosed series C round into Green Plug, a US-based company making mixed-signal controllers to the high volume AC-DC power converter market.
There was also involvement from venture firms Herald Ventures, Killik & Co and Peninsula Ventures.
Green Plug will now focus on expanding its intellectual property portfolio.
Following the investment Green Plug appointed executive Kevin Jones to the newly-created position of chief scientist. Rajeev Prasad will succeed Jones as vice-president of engineering.
Jones joined Green Plug as vice-president of engineering in 2008.
Frank Paniagua Jr, Green Plug chief executive and chairman, said: Kevin’s breadth of knowledge, his ability to think outside the box and his versatility in working with all kinds of technologies make him absolutely ideal for the chief scientist position. Kevin has enabled Green Plug to focus our technology on a critically needed area in AC-DC power conversion — the use of fully programmable controllers for high volume, low-cost applications.”
Prasad began his career at chip maker Intel. Prior to joining Green Plug he led the development of low-power audio processors for smartphones as Director of VLSI Engineering at Audience and for laptops, speakers and headphones as Sr. director of engineering at Creative.
