Aiven sources $100m for series C round

Aiven, the Finland-based developer of an open-source software management platform, has received $100m in series C funding from investors including enterprise software producer Salesforce.

Venture capital firm Atomico led the round, which also featured World Innovation Lab, Earlybird Venture Capital and IVP, while Salesforce took part through corporate venturing unit Salesforce Ventures. The capital was raised at a valuation exceeding $800m.

Founded in 2016, Aiven manages access to open-source software for corporate clients in the cloud, enabling them to discover and get the best products available. The cash will go to international growth and the introduction of new products.

Oskari Saarenmaa, Aiven’s co-founder and chief executive, said: “Aiven’s mission is to champion open source, making the lives of developers better in all that we do.

“The most recent funding will enable us to continue adding new service capabilities, grow our team and expand into new markets, as well as more significantly contribute to the open source community.”

Earlybird Venture Capital led the company’s $9m series A round in May 2019, participating alongside Lifeline Ventures and angel investor Risto Siilasmaa.

Aiven added $40m nine months later, in a series B round led by IVP and backed by Earlybird Venture Capital, Lifeline Ventures and the family offices of Siilasmaa and Olivier Pome.
