OpenClassrooms stays course for $80m series C

France-based remote educational services provider OpenClassrooms has secured $80m in a series C round that included Salesforce Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of enterprise software provider Salesforce.

Lumos Capital, GSV Ventures and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative filled out the round, which lifted the company’s overall funding to roughly $150m.

Founded in 2013, OpenClassrooms has built an online platform that offers more than 50 academic and professional training courses.

OpenClassrooms said in a statement: “The additional capital we are raising today will allow OpenClassrooms to increase its impact by allowing even more individuals to access affordable upskilling and reskilling programmes at a global level.”

General Atlantic led a $60m for OpenClassrooms in 2018, investing alongside Alven Capital, Citizen Capital and BPIfrance.

The company had received $6.7m from Alven Capital, BPIfrance, Citizen Capital and angel investor Xavier Niel in 2016. Alven Capital had provided it with $1.4m in 2014, two years after injecting $1.6m.
