Optimizely searches out $28m

Optimizely, a a US-based website testing company, has raised $28m in its series A round from a consortium including US-based search engine Google’s corporate venturing unit.

Venture capital firm Benchmark Capital led the A round, which included peers Bain Capital Ventures, Battery Ventures and InterWest Partners as well as Google Ventures.

In June, Google Ventures backed Optimizely’s seed round. Optimizely also raised $1.2m in angel funding in 2010, from individuals, Ron Conway, Chris Sacca, Steve Chen, Paul Buchheit, Ashton Kutcher, Mitch Kapor, Chris Dixon, Joshua Schachter, Naval Ravikant, Ram Shriram, Ariel Poler, Aydin Senkut, Brian Sugar, Deep Nishar, Sam Altman, Steve Huffman, Nils Johnson, Jonathan Heiliger, Keval Desai, Elad Gil,  and Avichal Garg, according to news provider TechCrunch.

Optimizely graduated from incubator YCombinator in the winter of 2010. It was set up by former Google product managers Dan Siroker and Pete Koomen. Sirokers was the director of analytics during the Obama 2008 presidential campaign.
