US-based Mulesoft, a cloud integration company backed by US-based software company Salesforce and the corporate venturing unit of Germany-based technology company SAP, has bought ProgrammableWeb, an online community of developers and software tool database.
ProgrammableWeb was acquired by Alcatel-Lucent in 2010, a France-based telecoms company. Mulesoft also runs an applications platform, APIhub, and the two will likely be integrated to serve the need for companies to link their older software systems with proliferating third-party platforms, such as Salesforce.
Salesforce was a member of a consortium which participated in Mulesoft’s $37m series E fundraising round led by New Enterprise Finance in April. That round, which included investments from SAP Ventures, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, Morgenthaler Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Bay Partners, took Mulesoft’s total funding to more than $80m.
