Box, a US-based cloud-storage consumer technology company backed by investors including Salesforce.com, has acquired Crocodoc, a developer of technology for viewing files and documents online in HTML5. The price of the acquisition, paid for in cash and stock, was undisclosed.
Crocodoc, established in 2007 by four students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, had raised around $1m from angel investors prior to its acquisition.
Separately, US-based Salesforce, provider of customer relationship management and cloud computing products, has acquired digital archiving service Clipboard, for an disclosed sum (estimated to be around $10m to $12m).
Prior to its acquisition, Clipboard, founded in 2011, had raised $2.5m in seed funding from Andreessen Horowitz, CrunchFund, Betaworks, DFJ, First Round Capital, Index Ventures, Vast Ventures and SV Angel. Clipboard will no longer operate as a standalone product from 30 June.
Separately, Box has just bought Folders, a France-based iOS app for viewing and managing files across platforms like Box, Dropbox and Google Drive.
Folders’ technology will be integrated into Box’s upcoming iOS app.
