Brave Care brightens up with $25m

Brave Care, the US-based operator of a network of paediatric healthcare practices, has received $25m in a series B round led by medical services provider Mednax.

Founded in 2019, Brave Care provides paediatric care through surgeries in the cities of Portland, Oregon and Fayetteville, North Carolina, and is preparing to open more clinics in Portland in addition to moving into Austin, Texas.

The corporate’s chief development officer, Jim Swift, has taken a board seat at Brave Care in connection with the round, which pushed the startup’s overall funding to $43m, it said, $1.3m having come from Maveron, Founders’ Co-Op and Liquid2 Ventures as of June 2019.

The company closed a $5m seed round three months later featuring a partnership between children’s programming producer Sesame Workshop and Collaborative Fund, as well as Founders’ Co-Op, Refactor, Greycroft, Fifty Years and Indicator Ventures.

City Light Capital led Brave Care’s $10m series A in April this year, investing with AV8 Ventures – the venture capital firm backed by insurer Allianz, as well as Founder’s Co-op, Refactor, Interplay, Learn Capital and Gaingels.
