Qualcomm and Palomar Health launch Glassomics incubator

Palomar Health, a US public healthcare system, and Qualcomm Life, the medical device-focussed, healthcare division of US-based semiconductor and telecoms equipment company Qualcomm, have launched Glassomics, an incubator that will explore the application of wearable computing in medicine.

Donald Jones, vice president of global strategy and market development, Qualcomm Life, said: “Wearable technology holds tremendous potential and we are dedicated to exploring applications that create opportunities to improve biometric data and wireless health management.”

Orlando Portale, chief innovation officer, Palomar Health, said: “Palomar Health will provide the ideal incubation environment, incorporating the new Palomar Medical Center, a brand new, technologically-advanced hospital with many advanced wireless capabilities, including the first deployment of Sotera Wireless Visi Mobile patient vital sign monitors and AirStrip’s innovative mobile data platform.”

Development of the initial glassware prototypes will be led by software engineering firm Sparseware.
