Google gives AngelList wings

AngelList, a US-based marketplace and networking site for angel funding, has raised $24m funding, led by Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of search engine Google, venture capital firm Atlas Venture, which is an existing investor, and the Kauffman Foundation, a philanthropic organisation which supports entrepreneurs.

A total of 146 investors participated, 55% of them investing via AngelList own service, Invest Online, which allows particpants to invest in the same round, on the same terms, as top-tier co-investors, starting with as little as $1,000.

AngelList’s valuation is reported at $150m with the latest funding, effectively comprising both a series A round and a series B round.

The funding coincides with the introduction by AngelList of a syndicate system, whereby backers can “invest in syndicates formed by proven angels.”
