Shyy bids goodbye to Hubert Burda

Managing director Albert Shyy has departed Burda Principal Investments, the corporate venturing arm of Germany-headquartered media group Hubert Burda, for the same job at France-listed investment firm Eurazeo.

Formed in 2001 as a merger between investment groups Azeo and Eurafrance, Eurazeo has in excess of €3.1bn ($3.35bn) under management having backed more than 180 companies. It targets early to series C-stage developers working on digital services, energy transition and healthcare technologies.

Shyy had focusing on Asia-based deals for Burda Principal Investments having joined the unit in 2017. His investments while there include automotive marketplace Carsome, business-to-business retailer Zilingo, sharing rental space provider Hmlet and fashion item listings service BerryBenka.

Shyy had previously been principal at Gree Ventures, a subsidiary of digital media company Gree, for nearly three years from 2014, where he helped lead Southeast Asia and India deals for the fund. He held board positions at companies including Ayopop, Berrybenka and Kudo, and featured on Global Corporate Venturing’s Rising Stars list in 2018.
