Ian Cox Moya joined PayPal Ventures, the corporate venture capital (CVC) arm of payment processor PayPal, as partner this month after leaving property technology-focused venture capital firm 106.vc earlier this year.
Cox Moya was managing partner at 106.vc from September 2021 to January this year, prior to which he led Synchrony Ventures, the CVC unit of consumer financial services company Synchrony.
This will not be his first stint at PayPal, having previously worked at the company for three years, crafting its strategy for the Latin American market until 2015 when he joined financial services firm BBVA as its head of venture creation.
The news came as three former PayPal Ventures team members, Jeremy Jonker, Jay Ganatra and Mario Ruiz – who left the company around this time last year – started their own outfit called Infinity Ventures. The venture capital firm, which will focus on fintech startups, revealed that its inaugural fund has raised $158m and already has 11 companies in its portfolio.
PayPal Ventures has recently co-led a $50m series B round for Egypt-based digital payment services provider Paymob and participated in a $111m series B round for Xepelin, a Chile-headquartered payment platform for small businesses.
