Losing pounds gains dollars for Noom

Noom creates smartphone apps to help with weightloss and fitness. Using features built into the smart phones, such as motion sensing, their apps are able to offer even more to the user by acting, for example, as pedometers too. To date Noom has helped its users lose more than 19 million pounds.

Saeju Jeong, co-founder and chief executive of Noom said, “All of our products motivate and coach users to make healthier choices, rather than simply track data. We have found that this combination is essential for long-term positive outcomes. With this funding, we can enhance our products to drive the best outcomes for the people around the world; already we’ve translated our apps into German, Japanese and Korean and the user response has been phenomenal.”

RRE Ventures led the investment with participation from TransLink Capital, Recruit Strategic Partners, Scrum Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures – the venture capital arm of Qualcomm – and Harbor Pacific Capital.

This adds to $2.6m from an early funding round led by venture firm m8 Capital.

The team at Noom plans to use the funds to build upon its rapid user acquisition and deep engagement demonstrated in 2013. In the past year, Noom’s audience reached more than 20 million installs across the company’s suite of apps, attracting users from every country around the world. Noom Weight Loss Coach is Android’s highest grossing health and wellness app and was named by Google Play as one of the Best Apps of 2013.

RRE’s Jim Robinson IV has also joined the company’s board.
