Adapteva processes $3.6m

Venture capital firm Carmel Ventures and communications technology and serices vendor Ericsson invested in Adapteva. This investment brings Adapteva’s total funding to $5.1m.

Adapteva, based in the US, has developed a highly energy efficient and scalable multicore processor chip, designed for parallel computing. In 2012 the company launched the Parallella Project that raised $898,921 through the online crowd-sourcing site Kickstarter.

Andreas Olofsson, chief executive and founder of Adapteva, said: “Adapteva’s open source, community-driven approach to parallel programming and processing is a breakthrough for the computing industry. Even prior to shipping all our initial orders, we have more than 5000 active followers in our community. With this investment and the upcoming fulfilment of our Kickstarter shipments, we expect the momentum to continue to snowball.”

Adapteva, founded in 2008, has developed a unique, scalable and energy-efficient architecture and intellectual property for parallel processing, delivering two parallel processing accelerator chips in 2011.
