Spain-based telecommunications company Telefónica has announced the recent group of tech startups to take part in its UK-based Wayra and Wayra UnLtd accelerator projects, TechWorld has reported.
The partnership is 50% funded by the UK government in addition to the social entrepreneur supporter UnLtd and Telefonica’s worldwide tech start-up accelerator programme, Wayra.
The second cohort of winners were chosen from more than 30 finalists, after startups pitched their ideas over to a panel of experts including representatives from the Cabinet Office, internet company Google and venture capital firm Accel Partners.
Wayra and Wayra UnLtd give start-ups a €40,000 ($55,000) prize, an office in central London at the Wayra Academy and support from Telefónica staff from May 12th in return for a 5-10% stake in each start-up.
The 10 winners included LEVBET, a the leveraged sports betting startup, and Dream Learners, an educational story app.
Gary Stewart, director of the Wayra and Wayra UnLtd Academies in London, said: “We are confident that through funding, mentoring and the support of a multinational business in Telefónica, we will be able to give them the leg up that they need on the path to success.”
