Apigee reaches new heights with $60m equity round

Apigee, the US-based developer of a technology platform for digital acceleration, has secured $60m in a funding round featuring SAP Ventures and Accenture.

The round was led by new investors Pine River Capital Management and Wellington Management Company. SAP Ventures, software business SAP’s corporate venturing unit, and a fund managed by consultancy firm Accenture joined Norwest Venture Partners, Bay Partners, Third Point, and funds managed by BlackRock and Focus Ventures as existing backers.

Apigee has now raised $171m since it was founded in 2004, with IT infrastructure company Juniper Networks also contributing to a $16m series B round in 2006.

The company’s Apigee Edge application programming interface platform enables businesses to build mobile and digital infrastructure, and its Apigee Insights platform provides big data analytics for digital interactions.

In addition to the funding, TechCrunch has reported that Apigee could consider an initial public offering in the next year, citing Promod Haque, a senior managing partner at Norwest Venture Partners and a board member at Apigee.
