Puppet Labs raises $40m to take service worldwide

Cisco and Google Ventures have led a $40m follow-up series E round of funding in US-based IT automation software developer Puppet Labs that will enable the company to expand globally.

Cloud software company VMWare, Kleiner Perkins, Caufield & Byers, Triangle Peak Partners and True Ventures also participated, taking the company’s total investment to $86m.

Google, Twitter, Salesforce and AT&T and 18,000 other companies use Puppet Labs services. The funds will enable the international expansion of the company and allow it to remain competitive.

This funding round enables us to further our leadership position by entering new markets and helping our customers deliver great software faster than ever,” said Luke Kanies, founder and CEO of Puppet Labs.

Puppet Labs aims to get ahead of competitors on aspects features such as the generation of a script to automate repeatable tasks across IT infrastructure.

This investment follows a $30m series D in January 2013 from California-based VMware. Earlier rounds secured $8.5m in November 2011, $5m in July 2010 and $2m in 2009.
