CVC Unplugged Podcast: Closing the deeptech gap

Move over GVR. Hello CVC Unplugged.

After some time away, the pod is back with a new look and new name! The long-overdue change reflects the transformation the show has gone through over the past couple of years from a weekly run-down of the news to an interview-based format.

CVC Unplugged will continue bringing wide-ranging conversations with investors, startups, market observers and innovators of all stripes, digging into the subject matter for an honest and unvarnished look at corporate and other innovation in all its forms.

And we’ve got the perfect guest for the first episode back.

Miles Kirby is CEO of Deeptech Labs, the Cambridge-based accelerator and investor, focused (as its name suggests) on deep tech. Kirby has been in and around the deep tech space for decades, and currently oversees two incubator cohorts each year, focused on technologies at the very forefront of science.

In our conversation, we talk about how to define deep tech, how the space has to reckon with what are sometimes much longer development cycles than other investments in venture, how mentalities are changing around entrepreneurship in Europe in a way that is helping to close the deep tech gap with North America, the impact and implications of artificial intelligence, how startups can make the most out of an accelerator programme, and much more.

I found Miles to be incredibly insightful on a range of issues that are increasingly relevant in today’s world, and I’m sure you’ll come away with a lot of food for thought.
