India-based weather forecaster Skymet Weather Services has raised $4.5m in a series B round led by DMG Information, Economic Times reported on Tuesday.
DMG Information, the business information unit of media corporation Daily Mail and General Trust, was joined by Omnivore Partners, the venture capital fund backed by consumer goods company Godrej that invested $700,000 in Skymet in 2011. The latest round reportedly values Skymet at Rs 800m ($13.1m).
Skymet owns a network of about 2,000 automatic weather stations in India, which it uses to provide detailed information to businesses. It intends to now expand its services across Asia and Africa.
