The Alchemist Accelerator, a six-month start-up programme that accepts 13 companies quarterly, has raised an undisclosed amount from Foundation Capital. Other backers include Cisco, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Salesforce.com, SAP Ventures, Khosla Ventures and US Venture Partners.
Delivery Agent, a commerce platform for entertainment and sports, has raised $8m in series F funding, according to a SEC filing. Delivery Agent has raised over $100m in funding, with backers including electronics conglomerate Samsung and chipmaker Intel’s corporate venturing units.
US-based music app Moosify is to be acquired by UK-based competitor Tastebuds.fm for an undisclosed fee. The deal will provide an exit to Germany-based media company ProSiebenSat1.
Internet company Google is to open its first Campus, a new space for entrepreneurs, in Asia with the company announcing the new location will be in Seoul. Plans have also been released for new Campuses in Warsaw and Sao Paulo, which follows the opening of similar spaces in London and Tel Aviv.
Ratan Tata, the chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of Tata Conglomerate, has made a personal, undisclosed investment, in India-based Snapdeal, an online retailer. Snapdeal has gathered over $400m in funding in rounds featuring Intel, eBay, Temasek and Softbank.
Internet of Things start-up IFTTT, a platform which wants to manage users social media apps in one place, has raised $30m in funding from Andreessen Horowitz and Norwest Ventures. The funding will be used for business development and hiring.
Germany-based tutoring platform Sofatutor.com has raised €3.5m ($4.6m) in series C funding from Action Capital partners, publishing company Cornelsen, J.C.M.B and IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft. The company raised a ‘low million euro’ round from Action Capital in 2012.
Wikia, a US-based collaborative media company, has raised $15m in series D funding from retailer Amazon, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Institutional Venture Partners, for international expansion. The company raised $10m in series C funding in 2012, which featured Amazon.
US-based 3D simulation company InContext Solutions has secured $12m in series D funding from Plymouth Venture Partners, Hyde Park Venture Partners, Beringea LLC (Michigan) and Beringea LLP (London). Chipmaker AMD backed the company in a $1.5m seed round through its Future Fund in 2011.
Finland-based Enevo, a waste collection company, has received $8m in funding to expand into global markets. The funding comes from Earlybird, Lifeline Ventures, Draper Associates, Finish Industry Investment and Risto Siilasmaa. Incubator and seed-stage venture fund DreamIt Ventures was an early investor in the company.
Lifestyle fashion brand JustFab, which was incubated by Intelligent Beauty, has raised $85m in series C funding featuring Passport Special Opportunity Fund, and looks set to be on course for an IPO. The company has raised over $200m from investors including Matrix Partners, Rho Ventures and Technology Crossover.
The second ABB startup day, co-organised by ABB Switzerland, the power and automation technology group and CTI Start-up has taken place, with 10 start-ups being given the chance to speak to around 30 representatives of ABB last week. The aim of the event is that ABB as well as the start-ups will profit from an opportunity to connect in an efficient way.
