Western Digital Capital, the corporate venturing unit of disk drive manufacturer Western Digital, invested $10m in data storage software developer Amplidata on Monday.
The investment was made at the same time as Western Digital subsidiary HGST revealed that it will be collaborating with Amplidata on an ultra-dense storage software offering for cloud data centres that it expects to be ready by mid-2015.
Amplidata has now raised about $43m from investors including Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor maker Intel, and Swisscom Ventures, which acts as the corporate venturing subsidiary of telecommunications service Swisscom.
Other backers of the company, which was founded in 2008, include data protection company Quantum, Endeavour Vision and Hummingbird Ventures.
