BP Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of UK oil and gas producer BP, has named Kevin Rodrigues as regional managing director of Europe.
Rodrigues will lead BP Ventures’ investments and manage its existing portfolio in Europe. He comes from a finance and venture capital background, having worked at companies including Credit Suisse, International Finance Corporation and Lightrock for nearly two decades.
Formed in 2006, BP Ventures targets energy-related areas including mobility, low-carbon products and emission reduction. It has invested $1bn in some 70 companies globally, about 30 of which are its active portfolio companies.
GCV Emerging Leader Sophia Nadur, managing director focused on the global south at BP Ventures, had been covering the European market on an interim basis since June 2023.
BP Ventures’ Europe-based portfolio companies include German in-car payment platform RYD and Oxa, a UK company working on self-driving software for industrial and transport applications.
In recent months, Nacho Gimenez departed from his managing partner role at BP Ventures after nearly 23 years at the parent firm in various roles across product planning, trading, shipping and CVC. He joined Ukrainian renewable energy investor DTEK as head of cleantech solutions and ventures.
