Chan moves to Felicis

Wesley Chan, previously a general partner at corporate venturing unit Google Ventures for more than four years, joined venture capital firm Felicis Ventures as managing partner this week.

Chan, who had previously helped to launch Google Analytics and Google Voice for internet company Google before joining its corporate venturing arm Google Ventures, gave up his role as general partner in February 2014 to become an entrepreneur-in-residence at the unit.

Chan reportedly pivoted back to venture capital after speaking to Felicis founder Aydin Senkut, previously an executive at Google, and finding the two shared a view that VCs should work closely with startups, the Wall Street Journal reported.

“Google Ventures at the end of the day is about building a billion dollar-plus fund,” Chan said. “Felicis is at the point where we are scaling efficiently and we are able to give founders personal attention.”

Chan joined Felicis in the same week as another former general director of Google Ventures, Kevin Rose, announced his departure from the unit. Felicis revealed the appointment at the same time as an increase in the size of its Felicis Ventures IV fund from $96m to $120m.
