Shuddle takes off with $9.6m

US-based ride sharing service Shuddle raised $9.6m yesterday in a series A round featuring Comcast Ventures, the corporate venturing affiliate of cable and telecommunications company Comcast.

The round was led by venture capital firm RRE Ventures, with participation from Forerunner Ventures, Accel Partners and unnamed angel investors.

Founded in 2014, Shuddle has raised over $12m to date, including a $2.6m seed round from Comcast Ventures, Forerunner and Accel in October last year, when it launched its service in San Francisco.

Shuddle has developed a ride sharing app aimed at busy families, enabling parents to schedule rides in advance for older or younger family members.

Drivers must have caregiving experience and have to go through a comprehensive background check against national database and in-person training before they can work for the company.

The financing will be used to expand Shuddle’s geographical reach and improve the safety experience for riders, as well as to expand its driver network, which already contains 200 women.
