Skyport lands Intel-backed series B

US-based IT security company Skyport Systems obtained $30m yesterday in series B funding from investors including Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of computing technology provider Intel.

The round was led by Index Ventures and also featured existing investor Sutter Hill Ventures. Skyport has raised $37m to date, but has not disclosed precise details concerning previous rounds.

Skyport still operates in stealth mode and is yet to reveal details about its product, which it has dubbed hyper-secured infrastructure.

The technology is built on top of Intel’s trusted execution technology (TXT), which enables advanced security features to be integrated directly into the hardware, reducing the need for security software.

Jason Waxman, vice-president and general manager for Intel’s Cloud Platforms Group, said: “We firmly believe in the value of extending security practices in the enterprise. Our collaboration with Skyport will help to further enhance the trust companies can have in their IT infrastructure using Intel TXT technology.”
