E.ON sells 49% stake in waste-to-energy company

Energy utility E.ON divested the 49% stake it holds in Germany-based waste-to-energy company EEW Energy from Waste to private equity group EQT for an undisclosed sum.

EEW operates the largest portfolio of waste-to-energy plants in Germany, and also oversees sites in the Netherlands and Luxembourg. It owns or operates 19 waste incineration plants in total which produce electricity, district heat and steam that is provided to industrial customers.

EQT originally acquired 51% of the company from E.ON in 2013. EEW has more than 1,200 employees and posted full-year revenues of €539m ($608m) in 2014.
