Jide mobilises $16m for series A

China-based software developer Jide Technology has closed a RMB100m ($16m) series A round featuring electronics manufacturer Foxconn Technology and e-commerce company JD.com, China Money Network reported earlier today.

The round was led by private equity firm Trustbridge Partners.

Jide has developed a version of the Android mobile operating system that is optimised for tablets, aiming to turn them into full-fledged replacements for laptops by making it easier to perform functions such as document creation or emailing.

Dubbed Remix OS, Jide’s version of the operating system is optimised for use with attached keyboards and includes some functionality similar to that found in Windows, such as a taskbar.

The company was founded in January 2014 by Jeremy Chau, Ben Luk and David Ko, all three of whom were previously senior engineers at internet company Google. Google has been developing Android since it acquired the original developer, also named Android, in 2005.
