Illusive reveals $5m in series A funding

Israel-based cybersecurity company Illusive Networks secured $5m today in series A funding from Team8, an incubator backed by telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent and networking technology producer Cisco.

Illusive, which was incubated by Team8, has developed technology to thwart targeted attacks perpetrated by human teams rather than through malware.

The company exploits the fact that human attackers need to rely on the assumption that the data they are collecting from a system, such as credit card numbers, is accurate, and tampers with the data in order to disrupt their attack.

The technology also alerts IT administrators so that they may take the necessary steps to isolate and stop the intrusion, and provides forensics information so administrators can identify weaknesses in their system.

Illusive Networks is the first company to graduate from Team8. Cisco and Alcatel-Lucent participated in an $18m series A round for the incubator in February 2015, alongside Marker, Bessemer Venture Partners and Innovation Endeavors.
