Relay2 crosses series D finish line

Relay2, the US-based wifi services platform developer backed by telecommunications company Rogers Communications, closed its series D round at $13.5m yesterday after raising a $3.5m extension.

Relay2 has not revealed the investors in either the original $10m tranche, raised in June 2015, or the extension.

Established in 2011, the company’s platform enables mobile network operators, wireline carriers and managed service providers to deliver over-the-top services such as app distribution, advertising and video broadcasting to consumers.

Relay2 will use the series D funding to support product development, and to boost its sales and marketing efforts.

Details about Relay2’s three previous funding rounds remain undisclosed, though Rogers Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of Rogers Communicatons, and venture capital firm DFJ Athena are listed as backers on the company’s website.

Greg Daily, CEO of Relay2, said: “Our innovative platform introduces the next generation of wireless infrastructure technology to the industry and redefines the way that organisations will deploy and employ their wireless network infrastructures.

“Everyone at Relay2 is pleased that the round is fully subscribed and now closed. We will continue development of our platform while both focusing and expanding our global go-to-market efforts.”
