US-based online authentication technolofgy developer Nok Nok Labs closed a $16.3m series C round yesterday after raising an $8m second tranche from investors including mobile network operator NTT Docomo’s corporate venturing unit Docomo Capital.
Docomo Capital was joined by Android tool developer Thundersoft, conglomerate DaouKiwoom, computer maker Lenovo, DCM Ventures, Onset Ventures and Raven Ventures.
Lenovo, DCM, Onset and Raven provided the initial $8.25m in December 2014 alongside DDS. Ik-Rae Kim, founder and executive chairman of DaouKiwoom, will join Nok Nok’s board of directors.
Founded in 2011, Nok Nok’s online authentication service can be integrated with existing technologies available in modern day devices such as smartphones, including fingerprint sensors and cameras.
The company will use the funding to expand its sales, support and channel infrastructure, increasingly focus on the Asia Pacific market and continue development of its technology.
NTT Docomo’s investment follows the company’s decision in May 2015 to integrate Nok Nok’s technology into its ecosystem.
Onset and DCM previously took part in Nok Nok’s $15m series A round in 2013 before Lenovo, DCM and Onset provided $16.5m in series B funding in February 2014.
