Sudheer Kuppam has left Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor provider Intel, to form a new venture capital firm called Epsilon Venture Partners, VCCircle has reported.
Kuppam joined Intel Capital a director in 2000 before being promoted to managing director in 2007, overseeing investments in the Asia Pacific region as well as the $250m Intel Capital India fund.
Kuppam is acting as managing partner at Epsilon, which plans to raise up to $400m, he told Deal Street Asia on Friday. It is seeking capital from limited partners in Europe and the US, but will be headquartered in Singapore, with offices in Asian cities including Tokyo and Mumbai.
The firm will provide both venture capital and growth equity to companies operating in the Asia Pacific region, apart from China.
In practice, that will consist of product-based technology businesses in North Asia and Southeast Asia, and services-based companies In South Asia. Kuppam was notably a board observer for Intel Capital at India-based e-commerce company Snapdeal, one of the most valuable private companies in the world.
“Most of my experience has been in the technology space and so we will look at making opportunistic investments within the technology spectrum,” Kuppam said.
