US-based mobile e-sports platform Skillz raised a $15m series B round yesterday featuring diversified conglomerate Kraft and led by Wildcat Capital Management.
Sequoia Capital, Marc Lasry and a range of unnamed existing shareholders participated in the round.
Established in 2012, Skillz enables users to compete in online gaming tournaments. The company claims to have hosted more than 40 million such tournaments to date, paying out about $1m in cash prizes every fortnight, and has partnered with some 1,100 gaming studios.
The cash will support a roll-out of Skillz’ live events technology as well as the hiring of more staff at its Boston and San Francisco offices.
Atlas Venture previously provided $6m in combined equity funding and debt financing in September 2014. In 2013, the company obtained $5.5m from unnamed backers, having secured $1.3m in seed funding from Atlas, NextView Ventures and assorted angel investors in 2012.
