Singapore-based restaurant discovery platform Burpple has received $6m in a series A round backed by SPH Media Fund, an investment vehicle forpublisher Singapore Press Holdings, E27 reported today.
Private equity firm Tembusu Partners and investment firm Triumph Capital also contributed funding.
Burpple operates an app and website that enables users to discover highly-rated restaurants in their area. The recommendations are curated by other users and a team of editors, and currently cover dining locations in Singapore and Malaysia.
The funding will support further expansion efforts across Asia. The company will also continue development of its platform, hire more staff and grow its professional service, Burpple for Business, which allows restaurants to connect with users.
Burpple, which claims to serve more than four million users, previously secured $500,000 in a 2012 seed round backed by venture capital funds Neotony Labs and QuestVC.
Dixon Chan, CEO and co-founder of Burpple, said: “Our mission is to help people enjoy life by finding the perfect places to eat with the people they love. Whether it is a first date, a business meeting, a weekend dinner with the family or just a quick snack, Burpple is for you.”
